This month we tapped our friend Bob over at Gimme Tinnitus to create our September Mixtape. The mix serves as a nice snapshot of the independent music coming (mainly) out of the Northeast Megalopolis in and around the year 2012.
Many of the bands featured on this months mix will be playing during CMJ in October and a bunch of them can be seen in one place during the joint Gimme Tinnitus /Exploding In Sound showcase.

It’s August which means we have a fresh new mixtape for you your listening pleasure. This month long time LA blogger David Greenwald of Rawkblog did the honors by making us this lovely mix.
He explained that he wanted to create the mix from bands influenced by shimmery 80’s synth pop (his current obsession) with his long time love of scrappy guitar jams. What he’s put together for us is a pretty impressive little mixtape that really captures exactly what he’s described. Enjoy!
Every month we bring on an interwebs music aficionado to make an exclusive mixtape for our community. This month one of our favorite collectives PORTALS has taken on the task of hand-picking fifteen songs for our July Mix.
We’ve had a long standing relationship with the PORTALS crew. Many of them helped launch our Site Player and when they officially launched their collective site they opted once again to go the exfm route. We’re overjoyed that they’ve created this mixtape for us and can’t wait to continue collaborating with them from now until the end of time!

It’s that time of the year again. That’s right, SXSW time of the year! So who would be a more appropriate pick to make this mix than Austin locals Austin Town Hall? As far as we’re concerned the answer is nobody.
There’s always tons of bands coming through Austin, and perhaps the best part about SXSW is being able to discover new acts you haven’t heard prior to the festival. Austin Town Hall has gone through the list and hand-picked their personal favorites, and offered up their latest singles, hoping to spread the word about some solid bands worth chasing around. Some of these are their personal favorites, some are secrets, and some are well-known, but we can all agree that this selection pretty much rules.

We Listen For You tried to mix in different genres and sounds but guide the listening journey in such a way that the music can be enjoyed as a whole and not just skipping around. Every month we bring you a new mixtape curated by a notable exfm user. For the month of November, Kyle, editor of Musicsavage has done us the great pleasure of crafting this an unmistakably Fall inpspired mixtape.
He tells us this mix is “A quizzical experience of music for the rest of our fall. A mixtape full of beautiful sounds, shiny new songs, and an exploration of cool fall sounds that lead to a cold winter.”
Musicsavage’s taste leans towards indie rock music with heavy folk, blue grass and blues overtones. These genres are brilliantly portrayed through this seasonally infused mixtape.
