A little over a month ago Chicago new wave quartet California Wives released their newest album “Art History.” They trusted their debut to producer Claudius Mittendorfer known for his previous work with Interpol, Neon Indian and Wild Nothing.

Thematically the album comes from a relatable place of loosing ones youth which is highlighted by tracks like “23,” “Marianne” and “Blood Red Youth.” As lead vocalist Jayson Kramer puts it, “a lot of our songs are about getting older because that’s something we are all
familiar with in one way or another. You want to go back to the way things were, but life is changing and people are too.”

The eleven track album is a cohesive gallery of modern-day pop portraits framed with a retro ’80s fit. I’m sure you’ll dig their new wave aesthetic and vividly stylistic song writing as much as I do.
