What SXSW Can Tell Us About the Geography of Indie Music
This year’s festival includes 1,718 official acts from 57 countries. The United States not surprisingly dominates with 1,316 acts, more than three-quarters of the total. The U.K. is second with 121 acts, seven percent. Canada is close behind in third with 116 acts, 6.75 percent. Australia is fourth with 37 acts, Mexico fifth with 22, and Japan sixth with 15. Brazil and Germany are represented by 14 acts each; Spain and Ireland 11 apiece; and Norway nine. France, South Korea, Chile, and Columbia have eight each. Sweden, Denmark, Italy, Israel, and Uruguay each have seven acts at the festival. Argentina and the Netherlands have six apiece and Turkey has five. These acts hail from 351 cities across the world.

Who doen’t love a good food truck? The answer is nobody. Especially when you’re down at SXSW and only have a few minutes to grab a bite before your favorite band goes on. That’s why the brilliant people over at Squarespace are bringing back their massively successful food truck from last year, but this time they’ve extended their stay to nine days from March 9th - 17th.
Squarespace will be rotating through an all star cast of local Austin food celebs each day including newly crowned top chef winner Paul Qui, owner of East Side King. We’ll be down at the food truck each day with a specially curated playlist to enhance your foodie experience. Stay tuned for a new playlist each day that you’ll be able to listen to and follow on exfm.

It’s that time of the year again. That’s right, SXSW time of the year! So who would be a more appropriate pick to make this mix than Austin locals Austin Town Hall? As far as we’re concerned the answer is nobody.
There’s always tons of bands coming through Austin, and perhaps the best part about SXSW is being able to discover new acts you haven’t heard prior to the festival. Austin Town Hall has gone through the list and hand-picked their personal favorites, and offered up their latest singles, hoping to spread the word about some solid bands worth chasing around. Some of these are their personal favorites, some are secrets, and some are well-known, but we can all agree that this selection pretty much rules.
Make sure to follow ATH on exfm and check out their all day SXSW party at Second Street Showdown on Friday, March 17th. Free booze and great bands. What’s better than that?
