Cheers Elephant - Doin’ It, Right

Here’s a sweet little video from our featured Album of the Week artists and Philadelphia natives Cheers Elephant. “Doin’ It, Right” is one of our favorite singles off Like Wind Blows Fire, but we found that it’s easy to have a lot of favorites when it comes to this one because the whole album is so damn catchy.

When you’re done watching head on over to the explore section and take it for a spin

What is one of your favorite/most magical musical experiences?

Seeing Sade live was an absolute dream come true. I have been listening to the music for a little over 20 years. Sade has released an album once every 4.6 years, 6 in total, albums that I still revisit annually. Ms. Adu’s voice is angelic and she is the most graceful performer I’ve ever seen.

Honorable mention: Lionel Richie opened for Tina Turner’s farewell tour back in 2000. He played all the hits from his solo career and from his time with The Commodores. He had +17000 people on their feet and by the time Tina Turner came out everyone was exhausted. Sorry Tina, Lionel rocked it!

If you had to pick a favorite artist(s) who would it be? (tough one I know)

Here are 10 of my favorite artists, in no particular order: Ali Farka Toure, Lester Young, Miles Davis, Sade, Sam Cooke, Ella Fitzgerald, The Roots, Jay-Z, The Streets, Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth.

If you had to share one artist right now who would it be? Why?

Big K.R.I.T. is one of my favorite Hip-Hop stars of the past year. He’s rhetorically strong, topically diverse and the production of his music is reminiscent of DJ Premier and Pete Rock. I recommend taking his 4 eva N a Day album for a spin.

What genres of music are you into most?

My heart belongs to Jazz and Hip-Hop, but I find myself increasingly listening to Indie Rock and Electronica these days.

Anything else music related, hobby related, or whatever related you’d like to share?

For three years in college I hosted a Hip-Hop radio show called Revolutions Radio Show. Initially a dear friend of mine had brought me on to co-host the show with him. Once he graduated I continued hosting the show for another 2 years and to this day the experience remains one of the best I’ve had. Nowadays my ex.fm page serves as my personal radio show :-)
